2010 Blanket NAFTA Certificate of Origin (BNCO) Renewals

As your Customs Broker, it is important to us that you receive the benefit of NAFTA uninterrupted throughout the year. Providing your NAFTA information prior to December 31st will ensure uninterrupted service - it is not too early to submit your NAFTA information to us.

Obtaining a valid NAFTA Certificate of Origin for ALL qualifying goods regardless of duty impact (MFN duty-free classifications) and declaring the preferential tariff treatment is recommended.  This can be considered “insurance” that can mitigate the potential exposure of a retroactive reassessment or tariff classification change from the CBSA that could have a severe impact on your business.

Willson International has several alternatives for NAFTA management.

Option 1

As the Importer of Record, who holds the ultimate responsibility to Customs, you can manage the BNCO's yourself. During the past year we have enjoyed great success with our clients ‘signing off’ on NAFTA for the applicable year. Generally, import data within our system remains consistent from year to year in terms of suppliers and commodities. If you choose to sign-off, we will update your NAFTA data to the next calendar year. We will only update those goods which qualified for NAFTA the previous year. You must advise us of any changes in eligibility immediately.

** If you are a 2009 sign-off account, please contact us in writing to advise us to cover 2010. If you are choosing this option for both your north and south bound shipments, we will require written notice to cover each of the affected countries. **

The mandatory format for the signoff letter(s) is at:
Statement From Importer Of Record To Import Under NAFTA For 2010 (Canada)

Statement From Importer Of Record To Import Under NAFTA For 2010 (US)

 Option 2

Your 2009 NAFTA profile is available upon request. This profile can be downloaded, reviewed and changed to reflect 2010 NAFTA eligibility on a product line by product line basis. Once completed, you can return this file to us so that we may update our database. We will also require a written 2010 NAFTA declaration similar to that noted above. This option is better suited for more complex databases with regular modifications.

If you are interested in this option, please contact Jeff Willson at jwillson@willsonintl.com

Option 3

Provide Willson with fully executed BNCO's prior to the expiration of your 2008 certificates. We suggest that you consider staggering the expiration dates of your BNCO's to avoid the end of the year rush to acquire and provide these important documents.

We will process BNCO's on a first come first served basis. If your BNCO arrives after November 30th, your NAFTA claims may be interrupted.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your NAFTA management options, please do not hesitate to contact Jeff Willson at jwillson@willsonintl.com Phone: 1.800.871.1918,  Fax: (905) 816-4403 or your Willson International representative.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to working with you in 2010!
